Given our experience with Nvidia’s Founders Edition cards so far, it comes as no surprise that this thermal solution is able to keep the RTX 4060 Ti cool with ease while remaining relatively quiet. It’s nearly identical to the cooler on the RTX 4070 Founders Edition, with both cards looking the very same in both size and aesthetics. The cooler is essentially the same as those used on the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, only a fair deal smaller. Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Founders Edition carries stock clock speeds with a dual-slot, dual-fan thermal solution. I’ll leave the rest of the important details like clock speeds to the spec chart above-and move on to looking over our test sample. However, in some games, this design will likely see performance drop more precipitously on the RTX 4060 Ti, in a relative sense, as the resolution increases than it does with other cards.

Predicting exactly how this will play out in every individual PC game isn’t possible, as you'll encounter too many variables. As memory usage increases, which happens when you raise the resolution or enable some memory-intensive graphics features, bandwidth demands also increase, and the more the GPU will be forced to wait for data to be fetched from the RAM. Overall, this has helped avoid a big performance hit from the major reduction in memory bandwidth, but it’s not a perfect solution. Nvidia also reportedly improved the bandwidth among the GPU cores, and the L2 cache as well, to further boost performance. In total, the RTX 4060 Ti has 32MB of L2 cache, which absolutely dwarfs the RTX 3060 Ti’s 4MB of L2 cache. In particular, the pool of L2 cache on the Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti was greatly expanded relative to the RTX 3060 Ti.

But Nvidia made some changes that helped to offset the loss in bandwidth (though these tweaks did not mitigate it entirely). This results in the RTX 4060 Ti having far less overall bandwidth than its predecessor, with just 288GBps of bandwidth compared with the RTX 3060 Ti’s 448GBps.Īt first, this looks like a serious blow and would normally suggest that the RTX 4060 Ti would be slower than its predecessor. This is a major step down from the RTX 4060 Ti’s direct predecessor, the RTX 3060 Ti, which had a 256-bit interface. Nvidia ships the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with a relatively limited memory interface: four 32-bit memory controllers for an aggregate 128-bit memory interface. But first, let's go over the RTX 4060 Ti and our test sample, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Founders Edition. Whether this will translate into the best performance per dollar is a question I'll answer in the course of revealing the test results.

That may be hard to swallow, but it helps somewhat to recognize that while $399 may not be quite as wallet-friendly as many would like, the RTX 4060 Ti does provide more cores per dollar than any other RTX 40 Series card released so far. A few years back, I never would have considered a $399 graphics card as a midrange solution, but that now seems to be where the market is at. Prices on everything GPU have been shifting in the last few years, and to some extent that forces us to reconsider how we think about graphics cards in terms of pricing. Though core counts are certainly not everything and you'll find far more that affects performance, cores are nevertheless the workhorses of the GPU, and the more the merrier. Sorry for throwing so many numbers at you from the start beginning here helps to set the stage and to understand how the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti fits in with the existing graphics cards market. In contrast, the RTX 4070 is priced at $599-just 50% more than the RTX 4060 Ti. The RTX 4060 Ti comes in closer, price-wise, to the non-Ti Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, which has 5,888 cores, or roughly 35% more than the RTX 4060 Ti. This gives the RTX 4060 Ti narrowly more than half as many cores as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, which coincidentally costs twice as much, at $799. The AD106 die, based on Nvidia's "Ada Lovelace" microarchitecture (which I detail in our Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 review), is packed with a high core count of 4,608 CUDA cores, 4,352 of which are active on the RTX 4060 Ti. The AD106 GPU core resides at the heart of all Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics cards.
